Marseille have been rocked by the news that centre-back Stephane Mbia will be sidelined for a month.
The Ligue 1 outfit confirmed on their official website that the defender suffered a significant injury to the junction of his quadriceps tendon in Sunday s Coupe de France win over Le Havre and will require a four-week spell on the sidelines.
The injury to Mbia could not come at a worse time for Marseille, given they are currently without a number of first-choice players because of the Africa Cup of Nations.
The 25-year-old, who arrived at the Stade Velodrome from Rennes in 2009, can also play at the base of the midfield.
Marseille are sixth in Ligue 1, nine points behind leaders Paris Saint-Germain, and travel to Stade Rennes in their next match on Sunda…

Vicente del Bosque will stay on as Spain coach beyond Euro 2012 after signing a contract renewal with the Spanish football federation (RFEF).
The 61-year-old s previous deal was set to expire after this summer s European tournament, but the coach will now remain in charge of Spain for several more years.
Del Bosque did not disclose the length of his new contract, but he is expected to stay on until after the 2014 World Cup.
I have already renewed my contract as national team coach, said Del Bosque in an interview with Radio Marca.
The former Real Madrid boss took charge of Spain after Euro 2008, and guided them to victory at the 2010 World Cup.

Manchester City manager Manuel Pellegrini believes star striker Sergio Aguero will continue to improve, despite already tormenting Premier League defences.
Aguero took his league-best tally to 25 goals with his third hat-trick of the campaign as second-placed City thrashed QPR 6-0 on Sunday.
The 26-year-old Argentina international has scored 31 goals in all competitions this term, while he has netted a total of 106 in almost four full seasons with City, having arrived in a big-money transfer from Atletico Madrid in 2011-12.
But Aguero can take his game to another level, according to Pellegrini.
When I see Kun playing the way he played today I m happy how he is improving. It is not the same Aguero that played one year ago, he said.
He understands…
New York Red Bulls striker Thierry Henry has vowed to help Arsenal win the UEFA Champions League once his playing days are over.
The Red Bulls head into the second leg of their MLS Eastern Conference final on Saturday hoping to overturn a 2-1 defeat from the opening encounter.
Henry concedes he is unsure of his plans following the conclusion of the current MLS campaign, but concedes he would like to assist his former club in some capacity.
Nothing is clear, he told L Equipe. I have not taken any decision or speculated, it s not my thing.
One thing is certain: I will stay in football, to coach, to be a consultant we ll see.
The second certainty is that I would like to see Arsenal win the Champions League.
Whether from near or far,…
Paul Pogba should stay at Manchester United as he has unfinished business with the Premier League club, according to Robert Pires.
Midfielder Pogba returned to United in August 2016, signing from Juventus for a then-record fee of £89million, but has flattered to deceive since, leading to speculation over his future.
The 26-year-old has won the EFL Cup and Europa League in his second spell at Old Trafford, while he also played a starring role in France s successful World Cup campaign in Russia.
Yet while the inconsistent Pogba has been linked with Real Madrid, Pires has urged his compatriot to stay put in the transfer window and prove his worth at United.
My view about Paul Pogba is that he’s a great player, but I also know that last season especia…
Jurgen Klopp felt Liverpool paid the price for being too passive as they surrendered a 3-0 half-time lead to draw 3-3 with Sevilla in a Champions League thriller.
The Premier League side looked set to qualify for the knockout stages when they cruised into a commanding advantage, Roberto Firmino s brace of goals sandwiching a diving header from Sadio Mane.
However, Liverpool collapsed after the break at the Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan, Wissam Ben Yedder scoring twice before Guido Pizarro grabbed an injury-time equaliser for the hosts.
Alberto Moreno endured a nightmare return to his old club, giving away a free-kick and a penalty that led to goals, though Klopp refused to lay the blame entirely at the feet of the Spanish left-back.

Christian Benteke is adamant he never had any problems with Jurgen Klopp and refuses to blame the German for his Liverpool exit.
The striker joined Liverpool from Aston Villa in July 2015, but struggled to secure regular first-team action after Brendan Rodgers was replaced with Klopp in October last year and eventually left the club for Crystal Palace in the off-season.
Nevertheless, Benteke does not bear a grudge against the Liverpool boss.
I do not think there was a problem with Klopp. We always had a good relationship, Benteke told L Equipe.
I went to see him during my first season at Aston Villa, in 2013, when he wanted to sign me for Borussia Dortmund. He liked my style of play.
But when I signed for Liverpool, it was Brendan Rodgers who w…
Sporting Lisbon have signed forward Bryan Ruiz from Fulham.
Ruiz has signed a three-year deal at Estadio Jose Alvalade that contains a buy-out clause of €60million.
The Costa Rica international agreed an option to extend his deal with Championship side Fulham who he joined in 2011 in May, but has now ended an unsuccessful spell at Craven Cottage.
Ruiz scored just 13 goals in his time at the London club, which included a loan spell at PSV in 2014.

Former Netherlands star Giovanni van Bronckhorst is to take over as Feyenoord coach from the departing Fred Rutten next season.
Van Bronckhorst, who enjoyed a distinguished playing career with the likes of Rangers, Arsenal and Barcelona, is currently assistant coach at De Kuip, a role he also held under Rutten s predecessor Ronald Koeman.
The 40-year-old is now set to take the reins from Rutten who announced earlier this month that a disagreement with the Eredivisie club s hierarchy over the team s direction was behind his decision to leave.
Van Bronckhorst started his career with Feyenoord before returning to the club to see out his playing days in a three-year spell between 2007 and 2010.
I once started [here] as a newbie and after a long career I …
